I was seriously impeded yesterday by a motor sailor under power, who thought it wise to cross port to starboard at a fine angle and disappear under my bow. Trying to put 62240 hp (yes that is correct) into full astern from 12 knots is not good for my blood pressure or my ulcers, and causes vast ammounts of adrenaline to run down the back of my legs. His excuse when apprehended was that he thought we were at anchor. Is there any chance in the near future that we can have a compulsory basic boat handling qualification that covers common sense? Please do not put your 10m pride and joy anywhere near the bow of my 272m Container ship in confined waters where I have nowhere to alter course to.
