So the plan was quite simple. Mr & Mrs Lawsy (out of Conwy) would meet up with Phil & Liz (philiz) (out of y felinheli) off Puffin Island. Time for a chin wag & soothe egos regarding our respective boating ability. Not for the first time, Blue Moon's gremlins put in appearance. Thus, we had a late addition to the crew - chief engineer & first mate (to an awful lot of Welsh forumites) Kawasaki. Off to Puffin & no problem. Bit of chop but even the dog (Jimmy) was enjoying things. Once round the island - Mrs Lawsy loving the seals both in the water & beached on the rocks. Radio contact made with philiz. The system worked - we found them anchored up off the south side of the island. We now had a slight problem. Blue Moon is not the easiest boat to get up front on, so as to release the anchor. In view of the swell Kawasaki very kindly took over the helm whist we had a catch up chat with our friends. Next thing I see Liz holding the boat hook in my direction. Not only that but there is a package on the end. Too late for Christmas & my birthday & it's far too public a place to be giving me a Valentines prezzy, especially with our spouses to hand /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Thus I realise that the package is for Mr K. I grab the package but an unfortunate extra bit of swell takes the package out of my hand & deposits it into the Irish Sea!! Liz's face looked like she had fallen into a vat of red paint - Kawasaki turned white. It was only at that point that I realised that the package contained the fire water that oils Kawasaki's joints. Liz's next action really impressed me. Somehow, before the bag sank into 25 feet of water Liz got the boat hook around the bag strings &, this time, placed said package into my hands without mishap. Like most near disasters, it is only later that you can reflect & think 'phew, that was close!'. Suppose Kawasaki had not got his fire water could his system have got him through another day of 'hi mate, if you are passing the boat would you mind checking...?'. And I'm sure I'm not the only boater in North Wales who has asked that question over the years /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Therefore I think that all North Wales forumites owe Liz a big 'thanks' for averting a disaster and ensuring that Kawasaki's blood stream will continue to function as normal /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.
