I thought it was a good point, most yotties I know live on the stuff(doesn't go stale or rancid as quick as most stuff on a yatcht) and on a more refind note,it is an absolute essential when eating Ham sandwiches whilst fishing, Good God man have you HAD NO LIFE. Lighten up Lifes to short to be serious ALL the time.

I have always looked upon a forum as a living thing and if some posts something about porta potties, then a diversion to the price of spuds in Tescos for me is not a prob but is for others. It is almost impossible for me to take the pee without changing topic and if I cannot do that then it doesn't hold the same interest for me.

The price of diesel post became quite heated and lively and a couple of members pointed out they were sad to have missed the debate. Others were horrified that the topic had gone off the rails. In my view, without provoking comments from time to time, then the subject is merely the price of diesel and for me, that has somewhat limited appeal against an interesting International look at a host of reasons for the prices being as they are.

This is a catch 22 because if things were done (boaty) way, then many members would probably leave. Equally, if things are done (non boaty) way then others may do the same or not visit the forum as often as they would to join in interesting debates about the world we live in and of course Boats.

As with everything, you write something and it can honestly be conceived in two opposing ways.

I I cannot see how I can enjoy myself making silly comments in the hope it starts someone's day on the right foot without pissing off a percentage of other members. If I cannot do this, then the forum has little appeal for me other as a reference point for tech stuff which in effect is a very long manual and not a living, breathing chat between familar names where we can have a laugh, cry, or at least some emotional response as is the real world with everything else.

Finally, and in my opinion, if the forum does not have side issue interests, then the amount of repeat visits will decrease mainly because there is a limit to how often you want to talk about Colregs and Gelcoat. Most Boating issues have been covered repeatedly and it is only that new posters cannot find the subject they are looking for that keeps the ball rolling.

So I am sorry to if it appears I have a tantrum but if the nature of the forum changes then it is not for me. I have a Boat but there are many more things in my life than that which I would like to talk about and hear other aspects of other members lives on every conceivable subject which also has a bonding effect.

Respectfully, Dave

It's all about proportion, but when the NB stuff is dominant it just becomes another general discussion forum. That's not why most of us are here and there are plenty of those elsewhere.

Hi Magnum, It's only around this time of year that more than the normal amount of n.b postings appear on the forum, I see it as members means of keeping in touch with one another until it's time to take the toys out again /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Don't have any problem with NB boaty posts, as only read what I find interesting and at times NB posts can be very funny so personally happy enough with the way things are.
If I want purely boaty stuff tend to go on PBO .
As for limiting searches to registered users think that's probably a good idea.

Magnum sums it up nicely for me.

Some of the NB stuff has been getting extra tedious of late IMHO (but then Joanne reckons I am the master of tedium boaty or otherwise so should be careful here)

Think NB forum good idea

A forum without banter and riposts would become dry and boring.

What is needed is; A: non boaty posts have be marked "NB" and B: a gentle wielding of the secateurs to prune a lot of them out (without making any apologies.). If a lot of the non-boaty posts kept "disappearing", then a lot of them wouldn't start in the first place.

Just my sixpence worth!

Cant see the problem really. If you dont want to read about NB stuff then dont open the post.
I beleive that the reason the forum is so interesting is partly becuase of the diversity of the discussions. Most regular users seem to be of a similar mind and the NB posts can be helpfull, informative and or fun. I would also point out that the success of the forum at this point is directly attributable to the input of its regulars and the evolutionary effect of these posts.
In short "leave well alone"

Re: Rubbish idea!

If I want to know the camshaft dwell angle of my Simms SuperVee, or how to make a radar unit out of coat-hangers and cheese, I'll go to the PBO forum. What makes MoBo Chat so interesting is the eclectic mix of characters and subjects. Bannishing NB posts somewhere else would greatly detract from MoBo Chat, and I can't seem many people bothering to look at a NB forum.

Dear Kim

Are you incinerating that there’s something wrong with this web sight. If so I find it extremely incontinent. The great words of Winsome spread about here are greatly perspired. Your incinerations are quite out of plaice. After all the sight is called Motor Boat Crap and that is wot we Extrude to. Yes there have been sum inclement posts but mostly of a composting nature, with all that entrails.

Kim, don’t fix it it’s not a bloke yet. But we are doing our excremental best to Adhere
To the sad posterior. I leave it for your constipation to digest.

Others (e.g.TCM) have likened this forum to the pub. I think it is more like a meeting in the Yacht Club/Cruising Club/Marina Bar. Most of the people present share a loveof/interest in motor boats and in the main are sociable types so they are there to share the company and experience of like minded folk. Whilst conversation is mainly related to boats/boating it will somtimes swing away to other topics but usually comes back to boaty stuff in due course.
The point is that people feel happy in the environment and it is a lively and interesting place to be.

Kim , I love this place as it is so please don't change it, were else can you be insulted[in the nicest possible way], joked with , rant at something, ask dim or intelligent questions and still be talked to by so many,
it works, please don't change it.
