I have an HF radio and JVComm 32. I can download weather faxes and rtty over the sound card but have no luck with navtex on either 518 or 490. Has anyone successfully received navtex with this set up? Could you pass on your settings?

I have used JVComm for Navtex, but rarely, as I use SEATTY which is a far simpler program, and seems to produce better results a lot easier than JVComm.
I seem to remember that I had problems with the Shift value in JV, it is wrong somehow (although that could just be a peculiar problem to my set up), to correct this I tuned into a 518 station, and using the spectograph, tuned the centre frequency and moved the shift value to accomodate the data peaks, and then saved it as a user setting.

I also found that reception was far more reliable if you are able to use the de-modulated output (if you have one) from the radio into the sound card, rather than the extension speaker output, using the de-modulated output reception is still possible when the audio output thru the speaker is just mush and noise.

For the record I rarely get anything on 490 even though I live approx 20 miles from Niton as the Crow flies, I get most of Europe on 518 though, even the baltic when reception is good.

Give SeaTTY a try if no luck, it can be downloaded from the web as shareware, and I think the registration is only £10-15 if memory serves me well. probably not !!.

More questions than answers I'm afraid.

First can you see the navtex signal on the spectrum display?

If so settings are RTTY mode then "navtex" selection.

If this is what you are doing do you get anything at all.

There is a little box at the bottom of the screen that says "waiting" or "running" should read running when receiving a valid signal, but takes a few seconds to sync up.

Also a little box at top of screen that sets centre frequency, mine is set to 1360 which seems to work.

Can't think of anything else at the moment.

If you PM me I can send you some documentation if you don't have it. Or
maybe try Mscan Meteo. Free on net and very easy to use. The frequency of the filters is slightly different to JVcomm so receiver frequency will be a bit different.

I have no problems recieving Navtex with Bonito's Radiocom 5.1. However, I can't give you the settings 'till I get back onboard at the weekend. If I remeber correctly, the decoding mode has to be "Sitor-B", but I can't remember the offsets.
