Does anyone use the navtex system in the Algarve. Are the signals good enough and the info ok. Thinking about buying a basic unit for my boat based near Ayamonte.

Navtex works well in the Algarve. I have a 10 year old basic N A S A unit which gets me forecasts from Portugal ,Algeria and Spain

Mine is about 5 years old, and it works OK, though I think it is less reliable up the river than on the coast.
It is sometimes hard to make up ones mind which area to look at. Cape St Vincent is usually quite different to Cadiz and the Straights of Gibralter, and the actual winds from Faro to Mazagon are often different again, less, usually.

If you plan to sail this boat for many years may I suggest you spend a bit more and get the Furuno navtex.
