We have one of the above which has an aerial for receiving the weather, but I want to connect a GPS to it so it will also give me Long/Lat, time speed, and also relay the information to my DSC VHF via NMEA cables. Does it have to be a certain type of GPS?

The NX-300 will receive navigational data in RS232C format (NMEA 0183 Ver 1.5/2,0). Other formats require a 'level converter'. If you have a Furuno GPS it's a simple matter of connecting the two instruments. I used to have this set up but now have my Navtex plugged into a separate DGPS aerial (Evermore). White and Blue are the two relevant wires (Blue is signal ground). Not sure it will output what you want.

We have a Raymarine A50 with an internal GPS, but have been led to believe that it's not possible to link the 2 up.....Have I been sent down a blind alley and it is possible?

Forgot to say I am also running a AIS transponder via the A50.

The A50 has 2 NMEA ports, so one will be set at 38.4k to receive AIS data, the other can be set at 4.8k to output GPS data to your NX-300. What else do you have connected to it?

I agree with that but am not sure he can then export GPS data to the VHF from the NX-300. Might it not be easier to have a separate GPS aerial for the Navtex (which is cheap enough) and then use one of the A50 exports to feed the VHS?

The A50 GPS output will feed both the NX-300 and the DSC VHF if required.

Nothing else connected.

I thought that could be a way, but then connect the VHF into the NX-300.

This would be the ideal way.......I think.

As you can probably tell this stuff is a tad alien to me, plus our internet at the moment is patchy at best, so thanks for bearing with me and a big thanks for all the input.
