I am forced, for business and family reasons, to leave my boat ashore this year. I have taken the batteries ashore for care until next spring.

How long will the internal battery for the navtex survive? Will I be faced with a disaster next year (other than just having to wait for the internal battery to recharge itself)?

The unit is now 5 years old and has been heavily used for that time but each winter the boat has been laid up ashore and the unit disconnected from power.

which unit do you have?

If nasa then your stations should be ok, I am sure the nasa uses flash memory for storing station and message programming.

Look at it another way, it is likely some new units might actually sit in stock in some places for 12 months, but will work and recharge on switch on. I would not be too worried. You 'could' always bring it home and leave it plugged in to a stabalised 12v adapter in the spare room.

Oh and bad luck about not having the boat this year.

Thanks Jools.

Unit is NASA Plus, one of the early ones with line separation.

Regretably not easy to get back to the boat for casual visits - its over 1,000 miles away.

Will luckily get some sailing with friends on W Coast of Scotland.

The internal batteries in my old single-channel NASA NavtexPro used to last for about 6 weeks before having to reset all the menus.

On the more recent Clipper versions of the Weatherman and Navtex the battery seems to last a slightly shorter period.
