I have the feeling my navtex connections are not working well: how do I test whether the connections from the aerial are working? Or maybe there is just no signal in and around Plymouth. Any ideas?
Plymouth reception is normally no problem. Maybe the aerial is dud, Nasa had problems with water ingress, could it be that? If so, it needs to go back to them for a fix (bout £20). You need to borrow a set to test against your aerial set up.
I sent my original Navtex back to Nassa for an update and new batteries, at the same time the aerial that was fitted on the pushpit gave up the ghost. Being unable to trace the cable once it disappeared under the cockpit sole I splashed out on a new one that now sits on the nav table and works fine. I have almost convinced myself that it can stay down below as its ability to recieve seems not to have been impaired at all.
New aerial was £35.00 and the service on the old unit was £58 plus Vat. Found there service department excelent and as I was near to there offices I was able to pop in and meet the engineer. Overall, excellent service.
