Are signals still being transmitted on Decca? My biggest beef with small boat Decca sets was that they seemed to do transmitter maintenance on a Sunday morning and it didn't work well in fog. Neither of which was helpful.
Navstar S was the satellite version - in the same case I believe ? I have the decca version at home now as the transmitters were turned off a few years back.
grey / beige, no it was my mistake. We had one on a family boat years ago, it was probably grey. Now you say it it does sound more familiar.
No difference, Decca was switched off a few years ago.
My dad sold his set when he bought Top Cat as she came with a Phillips AP, which I never liked as much as the navstar, to start with on the Phillips you had to scroll through all the positions with four keys available. On a choppy passage as it was mounted at head height above the chart table it could prove troublesome!
Sorry for the bad news, but it is time to upgrade to GPS.
When I first responded I googled for an image just to confirm I was talking about the set we had. I was amazed how many brokerage adverts listed these decca units on the inventory. That is akin to listing the mould on the cushions as a feature!
It also suggests, some boats have been in brokerage for far too long.
