My Navman 5600 chartplotter has stopped switching on and no longer feeds position data to the VHF.

Rather than change the wiring is their a more modern replacement that uses the same connections?

The marine part of navman is now owned by Navico, who own Lowrance, Simrad, B&G and more.

No direct replacement currently made. So you are looking at a change, or old stock somewhere, second hand or repair.

Repair available here http://theservicecentre.eu

I would look to replace with a current plotter given your predicament.

The Navman 5600 series was also marketed under the Northstar Brand types 557 & 567. Had one on my last boat and thought it was a great plotter, but they were discontinued when Simrad took them over.

The Service Centre had new ones available a couple of years ago when I was searching, but I ended up with the Garmin GPSMAP750.

I tried the Lowrance HDS5 & 7M but had 'issues' with them, and their after sales support was ****. Won't buy another Simrad product, as this attitude to after sales was similar when I needed to change the MMSI on the RD68 on my previous boat - buying a new VHF set would have been cheaper, except for the excellent service offered by a firm called PRS Comms on Ebay (these guys may be the same people as the Service Centre).

Am also in the market for a new plotter, since reckon my navman 5607 (given up after 7 years use) is probably not worth repairing.

Thinking of the Raymarine A65 or A75, looks a nice piece of kit. Any feedback from anyone who has one?

I also upgraded from the Navman to a Garmin 750. Best bit of kit on the boat. Pity it didn't happen last year when they were discounted prior to a slight model change.

The Garmin 750 to 751 is more than a slight model change. It's a totally redesigned unit, 60% faster redraw, does 10Hz GLONASS as well as GPS, WIFI etc, many new features.

I had a 750, which was a good unit, but it can't network for dual station radar.

I've got Lowrance HDS' now, as superheat6k indicates, the smaller models do have some limitations around NMEA 0183, the larger ones don't, although I'm my setup is all NMEA 2000 now anyway. The Lowrance / Navico Broadband radar, for my usage can't be beaten, great close range capability and almost zero emissions.

I would recommend anyone who's looking for a new unit, to go along to a boat show or chandlers and have a play with a few different manufacturers offerings.
