Navman 5500i Tracker - ALARM

I find that I can only hear the alarm from this when it is dead quiet as I am quite hard of hearing (too much rifle shooting in my young days, without earmuffs).

Is there any way of connecting the alarm to, perhaps, a light or led set in the bulkhead between the cabin and the cockpit so as to attract my attention.

The Navman is by the chart table below and although I can see it from a helming position (sailing on Starboard anyway) I cannot hear the alarm from there. Nor can I hear it if the engine is running.

Otherwise it is a really excellent piece of gear.

RTFM...

I had a 5600, which certainly had an output for an external alarm, so I'm sure the 5500 will too. Check out the owner's manual for wiring details. You can download it from here.

Connect an external "beeper" between the Red +ve and Green -ve, page 35 in the manual.

If you have any problems Bob, give me a call and I will see what I can do for you. I have a small loose beeper on the boat, and I will try it on my 5500 first.

Thanks for that. I suppose that the old saying "Read the Manual if all else fails" applies here.

Has anyone got the external alarm to work?
I have connected a 12v buzzer from maplin between +ve and the green wire and it alarms all the time. I have done a system reset on the tracker (mine is a 5600) but that makes no difference, even powering off the tracked still leaves the buzzer going quietly. I would have thought the alarm output is shot, but I look forward to someone telling me what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks Paul C.
