Question for the forum - just bought a Navionics Platinum Plus card (gift from work) and happened to notice on it that you should not put it into a computer or else it will render it unusable!

Have contacted Navionics to see if I can use it with Raychart software at home and they say no - you now have to buy the Navionics card reader for another £45 + vat!

Is this true, dare I put my card into my computer, anyone else tried?

It most certainly cannot be read in a standard card reader. Whether or not the card will be damaged is debatable, i suspect this is a scare tactic from Nobionics to stop people trying to copy them. If the card is write protected, no damage should be done.

Short answer though, Raytech won't even see the card unless it's in the Navionics reader, so no point in risking whether or not it'll come to harm in a standard reader.

The cards have been knobbled in hardware.

The warning about damage is really about manipulating any of the files on there. Putting them into a standard card reader is pointless.
