Navionics updates - confused myself

This morning I updated my 46XG chip with freshest data. The website advised me that my free updates are due to expire shortly and offered a price to extend for a further year, which I thought I had accepted.

The site then asked me to put the chip back into the PC and a new message said the 'area I wanted was not the same as the old area' and I should drag the pins to what I wanted. It would not let me cover the same area as the original chip..

Have I inadvertently ordered something else? I want to retain 46XG in its entirety, as it was. I just wanted "freshest data" extended.

Am I going to have to talk to Navionics or am I missing something?

I would say - talk to Navionics. Supply screen shots if possible. I have found them very responsive and helpful. In fact I am afraid there is truth in the fact that the users are the very best testers for any new software. You should be polite, because it is everyone's interest - you are not going to die ( I may live to regret that statement).

Don't know how you got there, but it would seem you are now on the "Navionics Plus" scheme. I have one card which came that way (actually a bundle deal with a plotter) and one which is an upgrade, but that involved a new physical card taking over the "license" of the old one, not rewriting it. Apparently you've found a third option.

Anyway, with the Plus system you choose an area of chart to download onto the card. All well and good, except that (as you've found) you can't drag the square over the whole area that your card is licensed to hold. However, having downloaded one chunk (as big as it will let you) you can go back again and choose another, which will be added to the first. I think I had to do three or four such boxes to patch together my card of the UK and adjacent Continent. Bit of a faff but the result is the same.

Wow! I love the knowledge you get on this site! This sounds like what I've got - I think I would prefer not to have to have to do this, especially when working on 'iffy' WiFi in France, and will talk to Navionics - who I also find helpful and responsive, at least the one's in Plymouth - and see what I can do to get back to my old status!

Now talked to Navionics.

It seems that what I now have, as correctly diagnosed by prv is Navionics +.

So I have had to add/update a bit at a time the areas I wanted for my original chip (46XG). Took 4 bites but it was simple to do. Now, I am told, in future, it will simply update when I want it to, the whole lot. So I am back to where I wanted to be.

He mentioned not to download sonar details as that is very data hungry - and in my mind there is some doubt that the Raymarine C90 hardware can actually handle all the data for the charts, let alone anything more.

Upside: If I want more data, I can have it.
Downside: It was a bit complicated and I am not sure how it 'went wrong'. Man at Raymarine asked if I was going to the boat show, so I could show them what I did in case it's not my fault! (Juries out on that one as the train fares make it a bit nonsensical).

Thanks for help, folks.

As far as I can see, the "upgrade" to Navionics + is inevitable.

My Navionics Gold Med and Black Sea updates expire in a couple of weeks so I did a Freshest data update a couple of days ago. The update went as normal and I then clicked on the "Purchase another year of updates" and it says "For EUR99 upgrade to Navionics + and get another year of updates plus Sonar Data" or something like that. There is no option to continue with Gold.

I haven't taken the plunge yet. Does anyone know if I can choose to do this is in a month or two?
