Having invested in a Navionics platinum card for my E series, I don't seem to be able to view the 3D charts, aerial photograph overlays or tide arrows. This may well be 'operator error' rather than the a fault with the plotter or card, but having been through the instructions in the manual a number of times, I still can't get these features. If anyone has got one of these and could give me an idiots guide on how to get these features, I'd be very grateful.

Andy, exactly how and where You can'see the 3D charts and/or aerial photographies? IF on the chart plotter where You have inserted a valid chart cartridge, You shuold ask directly Raymarine/who sold You the system (BEWARE: there is a procedure to be followed in powering uo the system!! Consult your manual).
IF your are trying to see the charts; again inserted in the Chartplotter, on your PC chances are that You have a Raymarine Operating System which, IMHO (and I might be wrong) is not yet compatible with Navionics format: the Marketing WIz at Raymarine dropped the C-Map colaboration in favour of the "New" Navionics Platinum 3D format and now the Seatalk network can't use the infos: You see them on local but not from remote workplaces /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Best luck,

How old is your E-series? Check (on Raymarine website) that you have the latest firmware upgrade installed to support the Platinum charts. Could be your only seeing the "Gold" chart features.

If you are up-to-date. Have you turned on the "tide arrow" overlay? Somewhere under the "presentation" options. For photos, you should see a "camera" icon on the chart - usually in or around port/harbour areas. Click on this to view photos.

Must admit I'm still learning how to "navigate the E-series menus"! Harder than navigation!! If you're still stuck, it would be worth a call to Raymarine whilst you're in front of your plotter so they can "talk you through the steps".

Cheers,

Jerry

I needed my software upgraded to "see" the platinium.

I am glad its not only me that finds the E series manual so difficult to follow. I don't go sailing to read manuals and I think my boat will be sold/gone/sunk before I can properly use the E series.

If manufacturers are going to make them lacking in being user friendly (I had the C series on the previous boat) I think they should run free introduction courses or at least an internet/website based tutorial. I know it should all be explained on a new boat handover but there really is enough of the boaty bits to understand at handover.

On-line tutorial

Funny you should mention that - there IS an on-line tutorial on Raymarine's website. Goto http://www.raymarine.com and have a look. You need to register and you'll need to be a VIP member, which just means you need to register some Raymarine kit. Suggest you use the serial number of the E-series you've got. I've tried it - its OK, but is still being developed at the moment. Worth a look!

Cheers,

Jerry

Re: On-line tutorial

Thanks for your help everyone. I suspect I may need to upgrade the software on my E series. I'll check it our when I go down to the boat at the weekend.

Re: On-line tutorial

Thanks I will try it.

I do want to be able to sea stabilise the radar for anti collision as this was one factor in the sinking of the Moddy in the channel last year yet I have given up every time and finally enjoyed the sailing.

The default on Raymarine I understand is ground stabilised which is best for navigation but not anti-collision.
