I've got this setup and it has proved it's usefulness several times including saving us from sailing through Calf Sound instead of entering Port St Mary harbour in the dark without a chart plotter.
I'm well pleased with my Galaxy Ace smartphone too, except for one thing, the amount of internal memory which is only 190mb. Navionics uses 37mb and won't transfer to SD card (8GB). With all the other apps, banking, weather, maps, google, ebay etc, I often run out of space and my phone rejects texts which is annoying. I'm wondering if I can unload Navionics and re-load when I need it. I don't want to lose it as I'll have to pay to get it again. Any suggestions? At the moment I've had to ditch my banking app to create more space.
Also I'm wondering if I can transfer apps to another phone without cost when I up-grade.

Your apps are related to your Google account and are saved there, you can install them on any phone that you put you Google account details into.

The Ace is very limited storage but yes, you can remove and reinstall apps as required. For a really cheap upgrade get the £60 Huawei Y300 which has the best budget screen with very good resolution. Next up the ladder would be the galaxy s3 mini at £149, get the NFC version, then higher than that, a 2nd hand nexus 4 at about £220 and higher than that, £299 for the new nexus 5. Those are phones of course. You could get a nexus 7 tablet which has a 7 inch screen, last years can still be bought for about £120 and of course you get the benefit of long battery life and a large screen. The new nexus 7 2013 has a full HD screen and is about £199. Going with a nexus means you get software updates from Google very quickly.

You could root your phone, put apps2sd app on it but this is slightly techie but does give you more space.
