I have recently updated my Navionics charts, both UK and Ireland and Western Europe. I use them on a Laptop at the charitable running on PC Plotter software, and on a old Lowrance 3500C plotter in the cockpit. I now have a horrible overlay on areas of the chart near the French coast when using the Lowrance plotter, not present on the laptop. I think it might be showing the nature of the sea bed as I have seen similar colours on a French paper chart. The problem is that it makes the cart almost completely illegible on the Lowrance's small screen, going into Boulogne last week for example, it was impossible to make out all the navigation marks. I have played about with the settings etc but can't get rid of it. Having spent a lot of money on the charts I am a little disappointed, to say the lease. Does anyone have a solution?

Sorry I can't help with your question but I wonder if you can help me with advice on what Navionics will work in my old Lowrance 3500. Should I get NAVIONICS GOLD CHART XL9 28XG for UK etc or do I need to get Navionics Gold Small Charts, in which case I think I would need 2 for my usual cruising areas?

Thanks in advance; I promise not to interfere further in your thread.

I use the Gold XL9 UK and Ireland chart updated this year. Apart from the aforementioned problem it works fine, though I had to send the card to Navionics as the on-line update service refused to download all the charts.

This (or something very similar) was discussed in another thread recently.

Solutions given in the thread but it was something to do with 'Seabed detail'..

Thanks. Yes, that's the problem, in relation to Raymarine plotters in this case. It looks like it might be unsolvable on my old Lowrance plotter. If anyone has had the same problem and knows of a solution, please let me know!

I wonder if it's possible to use the Menu item Map Categories Drawn to access a switch for Seabed Detail? I've so far only used the Lowrance plotter with the Nauticpath chart which doesn't have that feature (amongst others).
