Navionics Gold cartridges

Has anyone ever succeeded in copying a navionics cartridge? I am not interested in piracy, I just would like to use a copy instead of the original in case of corruption of the data. Straightforward copying of the files doesn't seem to work, ie the chartplotter won't recognise it.

it's not an option in the normal sense of backup etc

ie it has a reasonably strong copy protection.

nothing of course is impossible if you have the tools and know how but the fact that you don't see a whole lot of pirated navionics mapping suggests the protection is pretty good.
