I know that Ilfracombe has a bad reputation in the local area and needs something to bring it out of the mire it is in. Hopefully this is the start of that process. I remember commenting in the 80's that a lot of the architecture is similar to Sidmouth, which has marketed itself much better. The council down in Dorset seem to have done a better job too.
Part of my family come from Gateshead which has benefited greatly from the Angel of the North, Baltic gallery and the Sage. Ilfracombe just needs one more quality attraction (and a gate on the harbour) to move it up again. The Tate in St Ives may be a good model? Maybe one of the TV chefs fancies taking over a few of the unused shops like Mr Stein has done in Padstow? NDDC are not famous for their proactive approach.
I hope something positive happens.

Turn the harbour into a floating harbour, people will come to look at the boats, have lunch, shop, drink beer (me) coffee (her), and the place will improve for sure.
And, I can come on my boat! :-)

As a town councillor this is what we are striving for but it’s the same old story, cash, we are doing what we can behind the scenes’ it has been talked about for nearly 100 years, but I think we are making a bit of progress

we are not dragging our feet, lots of people are working very hard
Unfortunately we don’t have the benefit of the Welsh development council or the EEC for grants’ only way we can get cash is to declare ourselves Welsh !!!!

North Devon is one of the most deprived areas in the country but because of the wealthy South we don’t weren’t any funding from EEC unlike Cornwall and Wales

Something to read here- http://www.thisisnorthdevon.co.uk/Dare-dream-marina-plan-come-true/story-12151456-detail/story.html

Where do they get this idea from '' Wouldn't it be nice though? Just think of all those mega-expensive yachts and motor cruisers moored up alongside endless reaches of wibbly-wobbly pontoons, while the equally mega-rich owners and their associated crew members mill around the town spending oodles of boodle.''

Some good pics here, the peeled side looks ok. Also how much does 25tons of bronze cost:confused::eek: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/a...s-65ft-pregnant-woman-takes-centre-stage.html

Just another red herring! Before anything is done in Ilfracombe we need a Northern breakwater. That would give deepwater moorings and protection to a sill in the inner harbour. The old quay head (listed) is not strong to hold weight of water so a new jetty with sill is planned for stone bench. If you are interested see http://www.northdevon.gov.uk/ilfracombe_harbour_strategic_development_plan.pdf

Still doesnt rhyme sufficiently. How about the Slag with the Dag? The Bike with the Spike? Or just the wife with the knife?

Maybe the Wail got nearest and it should be the Beetch with the Bump.
