You may already know from other posts that I'm doing a cockpit tidy-up on my 32ft motorboat. Now, reading the (few) bits of regulation I can lay my hands on at this moment, I'm wondering...
Under power, I need to show red, green, and white navigation lights, in the appropriate sectors, plus a 'steaming' light to the red and green arcs forward.
At anchor, I must show a white light all around.
To simplify the fit, can I satisfy this as follows?
One all-round white light at the last-head to serve as anchor light, but which doubles as steaming light and white navigation light when under power, plus the red and green lights mounted lower on the boat than the white.
To a vessel observing mine, I will appear as the regulations require, but with only three lights required to do it. Moreover, I will be able to delete my white (stern) navigation light - which is useless anyway as the newly-fitted tender on the davits is in its way.
Putting my question another way, is there any requirement for all three navigation lights be at the same height above the waterline?
Any thoughts...?
