Can anyone advise me about my Navico Corus Instrumentation? The wind indicator is on the blink (in fact depth is too but that’s another story). The wind indicator needle sometimes sticks, tells half truths and sometimes out and out lies e.g. spinning round in circles. My questions are: is the fault likely to be in the instrument display, the mast head unit, the wiring or all three? Am I facing a complete new installation from mast head to instrument panel? Is it possible to diagnose where the fault lies? Is it possible to do a stepwise upgrade starting with just replacing the display unit with something more modern i.e. will the Navico mast head transducer unit be compatible with any other type of displays? I’ve tried to find a Corus replacement but had no luck so far.

Navico Corus instruments stopped being made 8-9 years ago and spares are now unobtainable. I don't think the wind transducer will be directly compatible with any other instrumentation. However I believe that if the problem is the display then you would have other options - it may well be possible to get replacement displays (from someone who is scrapping the whole system). Also the NMEA interface (if installed) should probably be able to output NMEA sentences directly from the transducer (I think).

However I think it is more likely that the transducer is at fault in which case you don't have much option other than to replace the whole system with an alternative brand.

My Navico Corus wind transducer is behaving similarly and I am fairly sure that the problem is up the mast, but not necessarily in the transducer itself. When the mast is unstepped I shall take the connector apart and investigate, remake the seals, changing the cable if necessary. The transducer sends digital wind information so I need to check whether it is sending anything, probably with an oscilloscope. Good luck!
