The other day I was asked to look at a failed Navcenter 600 on the boat on the buoy next to mine. He feeds GPS in via a Raystar antenna/receiver (i.e. a Seatalk feed). The combo stopped working about two months ago. As 'honorary' moorings electronics bod I was asked to check it out (with no manual).

I have been googling for some documentation without much luck. Does anyone happen to have anything that would help me diagnose the Navcenter? I have fed my own Raystar data into it and I still get 'No GPS'.

I thought I might be able to feed it with NMEA GPS from my neighbour's second GPS but without documentation I am stuck.

If anyone can help with any documentation (even just connector pinouts) it would be appreciated.

TIA
Bob

PS I cannot reset date/time in the set up menu - I am thinking maybe there is a hold-up battery that has failed?

The user manual is in the expected place on the Raymarine site

I had a look through my cache of service manuals for you, but don't have anything that old. Hopefully the user manual will tell you what you need. No idea why you couldn't find it.

Pete,
Many thanks - that should get me going! The manual has 100 pages+ so shouild tell me what I need to know

I confess. I had googled based on Autohelm and was presented with a multitude of 'suspect' sites. On rechecking now, Raymarine does appear way down the page. I also confess that my regular exposure to Raymarine is just the AIS 250 and the usual ST60s, so I hadn't made the mental connection between Autohelm and Raymarine. Thanks for looking through your files.

Regards
Bob

Just to report success in case anyone else has a similar problem. I replaced the hold-up battery (in stock at the local RS) and the unit is now up and running.

Just as an FYI, the owners and service manuals were of the type sometimes described as "every possible assistance except help"!

Cheers

Hi Bob,
I think I may have a similar problem.....how does one find the hold-up battery? Where is it located?
Cheers

I had a battery failure two years ago, but the effects were less drastic: I lost the waypoint list and the log. Having eventually found the battery, I did manage to replace it, but I don't think my amateur soldering, was up to scratch as the battery has failed again....

Raymarine technical support were even less use than the manuals BTW.

Hello Andy: There is a button type battery on the inside of the navcenter 600 unit. Removal of the back will reveal its location. Replacing this battery did not fix the problem of dno antenna present. On my unit the antenna, a micro-pulse model, has a button battery, #CR2016, which has to be replaced from time to time. To access the antenna electronics on my unit the antenna unscrews and the battery is located on the underside of the pcb board. Hopeful this information will be useful.
