I have inherited one of these with my boat + a handbook but it is all in furrin.I have tried googling it but am really none the wiser.
Anybody out there know of a site where I could download a manual in English or can tell me something about it?

I know practically nothing about radio's & would appreciate a basic lesson on it's use & what you can do with it.

They do for everyone else - we really don't need any more untrained, unlicensed and incompetent w*nkers blocking the airwaves. If you can't even work out how the couple of buttons work, what hope is there?

Rob.

A bit harsh but I agree with the sentiment, get the license - it might save yours or someone elses life one day knowing how to operate it properly.

OK, I shouldn't have been so short - I'm just a bit sick of all the people who disregard the need for training. The current news story of a man killing/maiming his family with a brand new speed boat is a perfect example of this as the first thing beaten into your head during a training course is that you don't drive without the kill-cord attached to you. Whilst I am sorry for all involved, it struck me as typical that the owner was senior management (rules don't apply to me...).

The thing is, this is an old radio which won't have any clever features that can't be worked out without the manual and if the OP had any radio knowledge he would already be able to operate it. On that basis, it seems fair to assume that he won't know which channels to use for a particular purpose and may end up as one of those annoying voices shouting "Breaker, breaker - c'mon" every few seconds on the emergency channel when Mayday traffic is in progress - dangerous and annoying! Actually, judging by the model number, it's likely to be so old that you won't find a manual for it, but taking the course would teach you all you need to know to work it correctly.

Well it's fortunate that you have said that because I am fed up with idiots like you that think that some sort of special qualification is a substitute for practical common sense.(there have been numerous examples on here of people qualified up to the eyeballs that have still gone on to make absolutely stupid decisions). The bloke that ran into an orange painted gas tanker during Cowes week is one example & the bloke from the sailing school that set off into the teeth of a force nine gale is another).
If you want to have a rant please do it on someone else's watch.Failing that just go on an anger management course as you seem to be so fond of those sort of things.....
