Just been reading some guff on scuttlebut about inappropriate nav light combinantions being used by raggies.

I do remember covering this on my RYA Power Boat Level 2 course but as I've only got 2 nav lights and an integrated anchor/steam light I am not sure I can get this wrong?

Can anyone refresh my memory as to the rules of the sea wrt Nav Lights?

Seems to me I should have Nav lights plus steamer on at all times, and anchor lite obviously on when achored, are there other cricumstances I should consider? My boat is under 7m which apparently absolves me of nav nights as long as I stay under 7 knots and i have a single all round light?

yada yada..

The fact that you've received so many replies to your post illustrates the Forum's in-depth knowledge of this subject but I think you're probably right about the 7m/7knot thingy anyway

Err night time is that when you cannot see you boat out of the pub window ?

On a motor boat under 12 M the mast head and stern can be combined into one.
Under 7 M and 7 knots an all round white can be carried, but if practical should also carry side lights, intended for inflatables and ribs were side ligts cannot be fitted.

On the Halcyon we have only a tri-colour, the only light the previous owner concidered he needed for trans-Atlantic, last job before we finally hit the water fit new nav lights, depth sounder, log, heads, rubbing strake, new pipes on engine, new halyards, I'm depressed.

Did get engine started to-day !!!!!!!!!

Re: Hardy transatters

Cor blimey, did previous owner do transat without any of those items - depth sounder, log, heads, rubbing strake? I'd be bustin'
