Nasamarine anchor/tricolour DPDT switch replacement

I have a Nasamarine masthead anchor/tricolour light. The original DPDT polarity reversing switch got corroded so I replaced it with a 6-pole three position ON_OFF_ON switch rashly bought without much thought from a chandlers, and reconnected the NASA wiring loom to the same geographic positions. So now the light doesn't work and I think I might have bought the wrong sort of six connector switch? .Are there different types? Is the NASA one special in any way?
 
It shouldn‘t be different in the way it functions though I suppose the connections might be but I would be surprised. I just used one off eBay. The first thing to test is if you directly (without the switch) connect positive and negative of the supply to the wires from the anchor/tricolour then does it come on? Then reverse the connections and check the light has changed function. If that all doesn’t work then it’s a problem with supply or wiring up to the masthead.

So what you should have is middle two connectors on switch to the wires from the tricolour/anchor, pos and neg to the pair at one end of the switches travel then the opposite way round to the other end of the switch.

You need a DPDT switch with centre off ( ie ON, OFF, ON)

This happened to me when I snapped off the rotary switch. I replaced it with a cheap 6 pole switch from Maplin but for simplicity it only switched between anchor and nav light. On off was managed from switch panel with the anchor/nav rocker next to it. I used a piggy back terminal for the 6 pole switch (crimping to be improved) but soldering them onto one terminal would probably be better.

Maybe this video may help, i use two the two existing switches on my panel.
one switche turns on the nav light and with this left turned on when i turn on the anchor light switch it reverses the polarity.

Why on earth choose a 6 pole switch when all that is required is a double pole , double throw switch

Perhaps you don't mean a 6 pole switch ... your photo appears to show a double pole , double throw switch

Vic he is probilly counting the number of terminals not the number of poles.

I also looks like a DPDT switch

You’re right, it is a 6 pin double pole, double throw switch. I was getting my pins and poles mixed up
