I am trying to get a NASA NMEA windvane to give steer to wind sentences to my Simrad TP32 tillerpilot. The vane is supposed to output the correct info and the TP is supposed to steer to wind but when I press the requisite buttons nothing happens but the TP will steer to a waypoint from the navigator when running a sailplan. I've tried turning off the navigator so there's only one talker and have checked the wiring to the deck socket. Anyone got any ideas to save me a masthead trip?

I have the same issue with my ST2000+ autopilot and wind info, all goes back to chartplotter and then to nmea, wavepoints etc like you all ok, dara being received and resent but ignored by autopilot,

Been playing with all and cannot see why. Can see all wind data on all other displays

One possibility might be a wrong nmea checksum from the wind sentence - I have an old nasa nmea windvane which calcs the checksum wrong, this is what comes out - $WIMWV,27,R,00,N,A*0C , should be - $WIMWV,27,R,00,N,A*26 (bit after the * is the checksum)

Any way you can get to the data on a laptop to see what's going on? If you have a usb/serial converter then should be not too hard to have a dig.

Think that's going to be beyond me unless you can give me some simple instructions to follow. The wind vane is probably 5-6 yrs old max.

Does it steer to a waypoint?
Certainly the NASA wind data will not be understood by a Raymarine ST2000. For the avoidance of doubt it is Raymarine that uses the out of date sentence, not NASA.

I may have confused the original post slightly, both my autohelm and wind are raymarine and only use the chartplotter to route through to get wavpoint data etc to it, that works fine. It's just wind data that it does not seem to see although it's on the chartplotter and this is set to pass through as global data. I've also got 2k and can try converting autohelm to 2k as wind data is also sent over this.
