In February I posted about my Nasa wind instrument. The vanes shaft, which was moulded into the main gubbins, had become "unmoulded" and fallen out.

This was on the ridge of the roof of my house, as opposed to a masthead. The ridge is very high and difficult to get to.

However, a hole had appeared between two ridge tiles, and as my house was recently built, the builder came back to fix it.

Whilst the builder was up there, I got him to superglue it back again. I knew it would be very easy for the builder to get superglue somewhere it should not be, and glue the whole lot up, so I covered the bits that I didn't want glue on, with Selotape.

This was a great sucess, but now the Selotape has got between the vanes and the main gubbins and it still won't turn - it is not stuck, because I can turn the vanes with a long stick - So how do I get the Selotape out?

A few days of rain and wind should sort it out?

I have just had the same problem about the shaft falling out. Interestingly, the nice man at nasa said he had never heard of the problem before. To be fair, I was sent a replacement FOC despite it being 3 yrs old but I'm begining to think the xtra £ for raymarine would have been worth it.

No, it is not waterproof Selotape, it is normal office Selotape, and cheap rubbish at that, it does not even stick envelopes very well.

It is not stuck as in "glue" but just laying between the vanes part, and the main part. I am wondering when it will degrade. If it was meant to stay there, it wouldn't, sods law!!!

OK - you didn't like my last one, so you probably won't like this either.

Attach a fresh piece of Sellotape to your long stick. Since Sellotape is always able to stick to itself when you don't want it to you'll have to fool it by pretending to want to stick it to a vane or nearby ridge tile. Accidentally stick it to the old bit and remove.

I accept no responsibility for structural damage to your house.

Thanks for that idea, it is appriciated.

I tried it to day, but it did not work. When I push the new Sellotape onto the old Sellotape, it just went further into the gap between top and bottom.

I think that I may have to get the builder to come and climb up on my roof again
