Nasa Radiofix

Very old (70s/80s) kit ! Before the days of GPS when offshore you could get a reasonable fix by triangulating fixes of radio beacons. Most Almanacs still list them I think. Not terribly accurate but gave a comforting sanity check on a DR position.

When you have nearly completed a winter north Pacific passage and not even seen the sky let alone the sun or stars for 3 weeks and missed the Aleutians by a bit of good luck and good DR then any radio station is better than nothing and our ships R D F had medium wave. Those pop stations from Vancouver BC down to San Diego could be used for more than amusement.
