When we viewed the boat the Navtex was working. When the surveyor saw the boat, the Navtex was working, but now we bought the boat it is dead. Apart from the 3 buttons on the rhs front, is there an off/on switch we have missed?

Actually on our last boat, the Nasa receiver was very good (even tho I'd mounted the aerial internally in a void over a bunk).

Not wishing to state the obvious - but could the last owner help?

It sounds like you may need an instruction book ... I wrestled with the Nasa website for a few minutes before trying Google with:

download nasa marine instrument instructions navtex

and got

http://www.nasamarine.com/pdfs/Navtex Pro.pdf

which may not be the one you're after?

Is it just a lack of reception?
The active aerial is the weak point. If you have the white cylinder on the pushpit try taking it apart on the next sunny day and put the circuit board in the sun to dry out.
I am tempted to try Ancientsailor's wheeze of putting the thing inside but of course that would degrade reception, which tends to be iffy anyway esp in a marina.
If it is stone dead, then there is perhaps a switchboard you have missed?

Cant ask the previous owner as he is dead and his family "dont know anything about the boat"
One poster mentions the on/off switch which we cant find! No documentation nothing, but it was working a coupek of weeks ago, so I cant see why not now

Is it dead as in can't receive messages or dead as in even if you press the ENTER button for 2 seconds it doesn't come up with a menu. If the former then it's because the signal is poor, if the latter look for the inline fuse or link dorect to a battery to test.
