I apologise for starting a new thread, when I know that this specific topic has come up in the last 2 years. However, I cannot find it!
Could someone please remind me what a whole screen full of spaghetti (random characters) signifies when the NASA Navtex Pro has been left on standby for a week? The background is that this is an old bit of kit- I inherited it with the boat in 2007 and it was not new then. I have been toying with the idea of a dedicated NAVTEX to complement (backup) the PC NAVTEX which I now use. Thanks in advance.

Mine did exactly that 2 years ago. I had replaced the antenna the year before and it had been working OK. but that spring I just got gobbledegook. Threw it in a cupboard & forgot about it. Before chucking it I gave it one last chance last spring and it worked fine.
Can't explain why, perhaps they just need a holiday or a death threat? :)

Ages since I had one, but IIRC, your screen is saying that the internal battery went flat and all the programming data was lost.
Battery recharges when instrument is powered up.
Pressing up and down keys together clears the screen and allows reprogramming, (I think!)

Earlybird,

it worked, inasmuch as the screen was cleared - your IIRC is spot on.

Superheat - thanks for the manual.
