I am currently get my boat ready for the new season and to my alarm I have found that the log skin fitting is cracked about 90% of the way
round. The skin fitting was fitted four seasons ago and has been fine up until now. The crack is round the flange and is clearly visible from the
outside. The fitting sealed with silkaflex and was only hand tight. Has anyone else had any problems with these fittings.
When I remove this fitting I will be sending it back to NASA to see what they think.

Yes, there were some posts about this very problem some time last year and if you do a search they will come up. A friend of mine has replaced his skin fitting for the same reason yet when he spoke to NASA they did not know of the problem.

I've just sent one to the US for a customer who had a cracked one, but he claims to have done it himself. It is the only one and I could not say to you it's a regular sale, where "paddle wheel and spindle" or "wind cups" are a regular order.

My wind cups flew off a couple of weeks ago, after less than 3 years service. Is this normal? My dad's boat has a Stowe system and his cups are still in place after 7 years service.

Nasa plastic...

...doesn't seem up to the job. I've had two of the brackets at the bottom of their Navtex aerials go chalky and brittle, before cracking. Current number is held in place with gaffer tape. Vowed to replace it this winter but have had other things to worry about.

Had a NASA log once; the skin fitting didn't crack but water must have penetrated the plasitic of the paddle wheel because the encapsulated iron (magnet?) rusted, expanded and cracked the plastic open. The other day I noticed a NASA paddle wheel in the skip in my yard. On closer inspection I saw that exactly the same thing had happened to it.
