When we set off last Saurday, the log wasn't indicating. I assumed some weed had fouled it. After we'd got some speed up, the log started working - "Good, it's freed itself" I thought. After a hour or so, I changed the display from speed to distance, and on changing back to speed, it seemed to have stopped indicating speed again. It started again after a short while, then on changing display from speed to log again, the instrument locked up and wouldn't change display at all.

Wiring problem? Transducer problem? Or just gremlins aboard?.....

Turn power off for a few seconds then back on. That should reset the processor. If that doesn't fix it then contact nasa, I've found them to be very helpful.

Is it the clipper or target?

We have the clipper (replaced the target display - which on the for sale forum if all else fails!) - and had this once - just turned it off and left for 10 mins, then turned it back on and it was fine.

Have you tried shouting at it?

Yes.

Therapeutic, but ineffective....

Hmmmm. So it's not going to be bullied into working. How about putting the cover on it and pretending you don't really want it to work anyway?

IMHO powering the unit off doesn't fully reset the log, otherwise the miles total would go zero too. Apart from the obvious (weed), another possibility is that the two magnets are gone from the impeller. A number of years on the NASA units, they used to be glued in , not molded in.
Also, besides the above incident, I also noticed that my unit would work fine in salt water, but not in fresh!
