I have installed a nasa compass. The sensor is possibly within +-3 degrees of forward and aft due to a minimal curve in the bulkhead. I was going to corect this out later. THe sensor is also mounted vertically (going by scew mountings)

The sensor had a rattle inside, ie sounding as if somthing was loose. I do not know if this is normal or not as I have never installed one prior.

There are no large metal objects, or elcecrical objects or wires within atleast a metre, possibly more.

The compass is reading about 100 degrees out of correct heading.

The instructions mention minor adjustments to heading but has no indication about how to correct large annomolies.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, is it easy fixed? Or should I be sending the sensor back for repacement which I think is the more likely response??

the rattle is the sensor, it is suspended on bits of wire and the swinging is what senses the change in direction.

Sorry, assumed it was a Clipper. The Target Compass heading adjustment is described on page 8 of the manual. You basically need to point the boat in a known direction, unclamp the sensor, then rotate it slowly until the readout is correct. The arrow on the sensor should be aligned roughly fore and aft. After adjusting this, you need to swing the compass as described on page 7. If it still doesn't work, you'd better phone Nasa!

I note you say you have mounted the sensor vertically. This is incorrect. The nasa sensor should be mounted horizontally.
Mount it correctly and I'm sure it will work.
Best regards.
