I have a Nasa Clipper Wind Speed and Direction Indicator.
When compared to other boats it seems to always underestimate the wind speed. I'm thinking that it may be something to do with the masthead unit - has anyone else had experience of this?

although rather fragile my clipper is reasonably accurate. If your unit is mounted in the lee of the mast or other obstruction this might cause it to under-read. Does it turn in light airs? if not it may need freeing off - sqirt wd40 into base of wind cups above the starpress washer.

Had the same problem last year with a few weeks old instrument, worked great at first but gradually mast head unit span slower than nearby boats, Nasa said to spray fresh water on the masthead unit, that did not work, so they supplied new parts for the masthead unit, slightly different from the original, all is now working fine.
