Help please!
Bought a set of NASA Clipper wind instruments from the Solent boat jumble at the weekend for a tenner.
Box had the main wind display, a close haul display and a DUET display. The wind direction/speed masthead unit was also in the box, but missing the wind cups.
I have wired the displays to a 12V battery and they all seem to go through a self test function and then settle down, so they look like they may work OK?
But the masthead unit does not have a DIN plug on the end of the cable? All that's at the free end of the wire are a red, black, blue and white wire, along with the shielding.
The main Wind display unit has red/black wires (12V supply) a 5 pin female DIN connector fitted onto the back of the unit which the close haul display connects to and a 5 pin DIN connector on a short fly lead (which I assume should attach to the masthead unit?)
What I need to know is which wires on the masthead display wire (the red, blue, black and white) go to which terminals on the DIN plug connector on the flylead?
If anyone can point me in the right direction (no pun intended!) then I would be extremely grateful. The NASA website doesn't give any wiring diagrams that are any help.
Or if anyone has an old damaged masthead unit they no longer require I can cannibalise and strip to check the wiring, please get in touch!
Thanks.

Sorry -I can't help with the DIN plug pin out, but the wires to the masthead unit should be as follows
screen - supply negative
red - supply 5V positive
white - one pulse per rev of the speed cups
Black/blue - analogue wind direction, between 0.5 and 4.5V.

NASA are very helpful if you e-mail or phone - that's how I found out the above when my wind instrument malfunctioned.

I have a masthead unit on my boat which I hope to replace this weekend. The one on the boat has no din connecters at the masthead. The new one has the din connectors. I have details of all the connections somewhere on the boat. I also have a duet, wind display, close hauled display and I will have drawings of all the necessary interconnections again on the boat.

This will be the third time in five years I have had to sort out the masthead unit. The top of the mast is about 50 feet above the ground so it is a combination of Bosuns chair, separate harness on a safety line and a youthful volunteer which is required for the task. The boat is on its launching cradle out of the water.
If you can wait till I have sorted my bits out I will be able to give you all the info you require.

As has been said NASA are extremely helpful on the phone. It is the technical people who will discuss any problem and they have an intimate knowledge of their products. One of the very few companies who have managed to maintain outstanding customer service as they have grown. I wish other companies could take a leaf out of their book.

I may have to replace our old Stowe wind instrument as the anemometer has just packed up - not sure if I can fix it until I get it down when we get into a marina. One of the adverse comments I've heard about the NASA is that it's hard wired at the masthead so can't be brought down for what seems like regular replacement of the cups. Have they now modified it with din plug at the masthead?

Yes and they supply self amalgamated tape to wrap the din connectors with.
