For reasons I won't go into I need to remove the cable from the conduit inside the mast but at each end of the cable at masthead and base has a large and it appears unremoveable plug. I have checked with NASA and the very helpful chap told me the old version had moulded plugs and the only solution is to cut and rejoin. For the life of me I can't see how the original owner got the cable inside the mast if that is true but
looking at the plugs it seems so. I would like some advice as to the best method of reconnecting:

Terminal block with self amalgamating tape - gel connectors as used by BT or a 5 pin waterproof plug that doesn't involve soldering which I can't seem to find

All suggestions gratefully received and if anybody has an idea how the cable got inside the mast in first place I would be delighted

I remade the masthead connection by removing the plug and soldering the wires directly to the board in the masthead unit. At the foot of the mast I take the cable below deck via a deck gland and it terminates in a Maplin purchased terminal block inside a small bulkhead mounted box. The same box houses connections for VHF aerial and mast lights. I gave up with deck plugs because of corrosion problems. I dare say there are plugs out there that avoid corrosion but I couldn't find them!

With regard the previously installed cable I can only assume that the previous owner had a means of fitting moulded plugs in situ.

My method exactly. Got rid of all deck plugs & use glands and Maplin boxes and connectors to create my below deck junctions. Soldered cable to mast head unit too.
