After launching this year I have found my Nasa Clipper Depth somewhat erratic. On the mooring it appears to show the correct depth however when away from the mooring it is erratic jumping between wide ranged of depth within a few seconds i.e 3.6m, 17m and 42m. Any suggestions?

Is the transducer through the hull or in a pocket of oil in the bilge? If the latter, it sounds like it needs topping up.

on your mooring the tranducer is seeing clean water and works. Where it is i think it will be picking up turbulent flow from keel orother item and is receiving false input from the area. Mine does this if run the engine on the berth. Either cure it by fiddling with the gain and if that fails reloctae the transducer.

good luck

What did you paint over the surface of the transducer ?, it could be something there thats cousing it, also check the plug is nice and clean and dry there it goes into the unit.
