As Requested i now have the information regarding the replacement skin fitting for a Nasa log.
Ask for an Aquafax bronze 1-1/4 fitting part number 2-70254
if your local swindlery cannot supply then TCS Chandlery will post
01375 374702 or 01702444423
it will cost you around £18 +p&p
you will need to clean up the inside bore and remove the tabs as this needs to be smooth to accept the nasa log, i did this with a dremmel type multi tool in about 10min . Once clean it will need to be trimmed down in length to match the plastic one . i used the plastic nut on the bronze thread as a guide and used a hack saw and file to produce a flat level surface for the log to screw down on.
Bond it to you hull with whatever you want and sleep a little more soundly knowing you have something a little more substantial that a bit of plactic keeping you pride and joy afloat.
I hope this helps

Thanks Squidge. (have also acknowledged your PM).

I've just dug out my (unfitted) NASA thru-hull, and looking closely I recon it's fabricated in two parts, with the threaded tube set into a depression in the outer flange .... no wonder some have failed!.

Have also noted another problem, which though it will not affect all boats, will not be overcome whatever hull fitting you use:...........

The hull on my Sadler29 is 3.4cm thick at the log position (I still have the plug I removed 20years ago!). This only JUST permits the NASA log transducer cap nut to screw down fully. With my previous NAVICO, I'd fitted a nice fairing piece to the inside to take up a slope in the inside moulding. Will now have to remove this and grind the necessary area flat. (On the outside, there is a flat/level area moulded into the hull, so no fairing needed).

I do wish manufacturers would do their research, and their designwork more diligently.

Following the last thread I removed my log fitting. It was fitted last year and I didn't think I would find anything wrong with it.

Found it was cracked around the flange as the rest.

Nasa didn't seem to concerned when I spoke to them.

Will be fitting a bronze fitting now.

Its a shame when I buy a new wind speed gauge it will not match the log and depth gauge.
