Nasa BM1 vs BM1 Compact Battery Monltor

Nothing. exactly the same functionality. Had a Compact on my last boat as it can be surface mount, but a standard size one on the current boat.

Only 2 buttons and the manual only mentions 2 displays. The cumulative Ah display isn't mentioned, and it was one of the major reasons I bought the BM2.

Actually, that's not correct. The ordinary BM1 also has an Ah display function, which the Compact version doesn't have. The ordinary BM1 can display the voltage of a second battery, which the Compact can't. The ordinary BM1 can also have the backlight switched on constantly, whereas the Compact's backlight goes off after a few seconds.

Just read it carefully and there is no 3rd screen. This would make it almost worthless to me. SoC %age is nowhere near accurate, and time to go is instantaneous, and based on inaccurate %age capacity, so pretty much useless.

BM1 and Smartguage is the way to go for the most accurate and complete battery monitoring.

Shows Ah on their website BM1 & BM2 Compact, BM2 higher capacity.

I have 2 x BM1, neither will display a second battery or allow the light to stay on. I suspect you may be describing the BM2.

Correction, it won't monitor the engine battery, just shows the voltage.

It seems nobody here bothers to read specs or manuals, or indeed posts! I didn't say the BM1 would "monitor the engine battery", I said it could display the voltage of a second battery, which it can.

I'm not sure whether you've read that page carefully, it doesn't mention the BM1 Compact being able to show Ah.

From the link page

The unit continually monitors the voltage, the current (charge or discharge) and calculates the state of charge together with the time remaining to charge or discharge the battery.

For someone who's in the business, I'd have thought you'd have been better at understanding specifications. The BM1 Compact has no Ah display function. It gives a rough percentage state of charge, which Richard10002 said in post 5 is "nowhere near accurate".

But it gives amp hour indication, but yes it does not give a digital one I agree.

Have not seen a spec that gives Ah accuracy ?

No both BM1s are the same price, £87 and both BM2s are the same. £107. Give or take few pence

At a RRP of £104.50, the BM1 Compact is the cheapest by 50p. No idea what Nasa's logic is for their pricing, perhaps it's as random as their design logic.
