My NASA BM1 often gives crazy amps readings of over 100A when the battery is fully charged and there is no load.

I traced this to a poor contact on the white lead.

Problem is that I simply cannot get the contact to be reliable. I tried smearing some grease over the contact and this worked for a short while before returning to its crazy readout again. I have tried soldering the lead to the block, but I can't get the solder to stick to the brass, no matter how much cleaning or soldering paste I use. I have also given it a really good clean with contact cleaner fluid, but this will not give a good connection either.

Is it worth trying special conductive grease? If so what is best - copper grease? Or one of the special battery terminal greases that are available on Amazon?

Or any other suggestions?

The leads attach to screws on the shunt. Try stripping back the white lead to clean wire, add a ring terminal to it, and fit it with the screw.
