NASA AIS \"Radar\" and VHF Interference

Having just searched for the source of interference on Channels 71 and 84 on my handheld, I discovered that it occurred only when my AIS "radar" was switched on.

This occurred with two different handhelds tested on board but does not affect the main VHF set who's antenna is at the top of the mast.

The AIS itself has just come back from NASA having been tested (for general RX performance) and was found to be in good working order.

I'm prepared to live with this but would be interested to know if anyone else has this problem.

regards

Gubbo

My NASA Clipper navtex interferes with chanel 80 on my VHF.

Probably an overtone from the oscillator of the microprocessor.

That is v interesting, might explain why I get interference on Ch 80 on my H/H when near chart table, and therefore the NASA Navtex, and not in the cockpit. Main VHF not affected presumably as the aerial is at the masthead although the set is next to the Navtex?
