I know there are a few chemists on the forum.

I'm curious what the practical difference is between:

1) Naptha (Petroleum) hydrodesuphurised heavy sold for about £1.70 a litre as white spirits

and

2) Naptha (Petroleum) Hydrotreated Heavy sold for about £20 per litre under the brand name Redex.

I know the first has simply had the sulphur removed and the second has been further treated to remove some of the double carbon bonds (so more hydrogen has been added), but Organic Chemistry was never my strong point so I was wondering if anyone knew the practical effect of the difference.

Or to put it in more PBO terms would a dash of white spirits work as well as injector cleaner as Redex?

Redex has 2-Ethyl Hexyl Nitrate, heavy aromatic Petroleum Naphtha, and Napthalene as minor ingredients, in addition to the main component of hydrotreated heavy Naphtha (i.e. petrol).

These make it worth so much more than white spirit ;).

You may recall what Honest John and his supporters achieved some years ago when they started to add acetone to fuel:-
