I'm sure I'm not alone in using disposable nappies for soaking up the oil and water in the bilges. And a lot cheaper than other proprietary methods. Just beware because if you leave them too long they do chafe through and then the crystal goo goes everywhere.

Nappies - yes but why

I recall looking at buying a share in a boat that used nappies in the bilges.

However, this was a double skinned, foam-filled design (think Sadler or Etap) so I'm not quite sure why the owners thought they needed them - unless there was an undisclosed problem.

I now own an Etap so know that (certainly in my experience) the bilges (such as they are) are always bone-dry.

Yeah.... Just remember to take the baby out of them first.....

great wraped around weeping seacocks, buys you some time and keeps the bilge dry until you can get around to fixing them!

good for laying up

I favour Sainbury's value brand toddler size

put them in the cupboards, bilges etc for the winter and they soak up the damp and keep the boat dry

I'm forever finding one or two i missed in the spring

much cheaper than descecant packs

nice to see you all pamper your craft.I use one under the sterngland(stuffing box) and it collects the greasey goo. Works good for me.

Now that is a good idea.

I wonder (clearly I have time on my hands tonight) how many I'll use this winter for this, and how many winters that would mean I would get for the cost of a modest priced dehumidifier....mmmmmm

So, let me get this right, if the diagnosis is weeping seacocks or sweating stern glands, prescription is a bit of pampering, prognosis excellent...:D
