hello, I'm new to this forum but am hoping to solicit any and all info about Nantucket Clippers -- I have recently looked at one for sale and am seriously considering it, but would love to hear any pros and cons from other owners, former owners, anyone who knows anything about these boats at all!

This particular one is from 1979, has its original Volvo 14 hp engine that was recently overhauled, and is definitely going for a bargain price. I'm not entirely crazy about the dinette layout, but am trying to decide if I could live with it or not...

thanks very much,
laura

I've seen the OYCOA site & description, is that the site you refer to? it has a great description of the boat from 1970, but since this one dates from 1979, I wondered if there's anything else on the web that's more recent -- and would love to hear from anyone who's sailed one!

thanks

considered buying one a few years ago which was just back from a circumnavigation. very pretty, good stability figures but, as you will know, very little interior space for her length, relative to more modern designs.

I looked at one about 2 years ago - very pretty boat but a bit cramped down below I thought, considered putting in an offer, it needed some work, it looked as though it hadn't been updated for years, and then it sold!
Speak to someone on the OYCA site - they are a friendly bunch.

somw years ago the person in the berth next to me bought one for 6000£ it looked wonderful. but small one night after a bit to much wine he convinced me to sail to the islands it was midnight.against my better jugment i joined him, as we rounded the headland we found a force 6/7 with a good swell but she sailed wonderfuly i took the helm! i wouldent go out on deck at night on a boat i dident know, insipte of broken sheets and a few other discoveries we enjoyed the passage , she sailed wonderfully and was amazingly fast and dry, inspite of the freeboard,i still think it was a wonderful solid fast boat and looks wonderful

my late father owned one in the seveties and I sailed with him and also in company with the boat quite a few times. Very capable boat but as has been said take away the clipper bow and bowsprit and she is really a 27 footer.
Only vice was going downwind in a blow when the balanced spade rudder made her a handful to steer. Father cut way that part of the blade forward of the stock and fitted a skeg which solved the problem.
These boats are now a very affordable genuine offshore yacht and their construction is also very robust. There was a good one for sale at Woodbridge recently through Temple Marine. PM me if you want any more info.
