Nanni engine install to replace a perkins 4107

I need insight from my motorboat cousins
I have just ordered a Brand new nanni 43HP engine with Hydraulic propulsion to replace my aged perkins 4107. I have not made the transaction as yet but...
Has anyone else made this choice or any insight into it.
power loss etc compared between shaft and hydraulics etc?
prop sizing?
pros and cons?
install problems?

I have now a 4107 running through a vee drive and back out underneath the engine, I am replacing it with a 43hp nanni engine through a hydraulic propulsion drive?
Is the powerloss from the 4107 to the vee drive going to be the same as the powerloss from the 4.43HD (43HP) to the Hydraulic driven propellor?

I suspect that hydaulic drive will be considerably less efficient than any direct mechanical drive.
You can sure that had the efficiency been similar for engines in this power range, you'd see 4x4s using a hydraulic motor in each wheel hub and the engine just driving a pump....
Personally, I'd not even consider it for a boat.

(ships tend to use electric motors where shaft driven props aren't possible - now there's a thought for you...)

I have a big inland boat with a hyrdaulic drive coupled to a nanni diesel. I haven't had it very long and I didn't fit it but it seems to work perfecty well, pushes six or seven tonnes of boat along happily and stops it very well, an added benefit is that the gearbox action is very smooth and easy

The main benefit from a design point of view is flexibility of arrangement, my engine is aft of the prop and very accessible for maintenance

Many, many machines use this technology, it is well established and will be developed further, there have even been two wheel drive bikes and motorbikes
