I have a pair of new old stock 5 cylinder diesels - 5.280 I think.
They only have about 20 hours on since new, but haven't been run for a few months.
When I turn on the ignition, I hear a loud high pitched noise, that I assume is a warning of some sort. Does anyone know what it is likely to mean?
Note this is when the ignition is turned on, before even moving the key to heat or start.

Also, how can I tell the output capacity of the alternators?
Thanks

Hi

Some points FYI:

'All' marine engines sound a tone when ignition is turned on, as a self test & alert. The buzzer will sound if certain things goes wrong during operation and knowing that the buzzer actually works is crucial.

Manuals etc. for Nanni commonly are available for download, e.g. here and here.
Tech spec one-pager here
The instruction manual, top of pg. 21, describes the starting procedure.

The alternator is stated to be 14 volts, 60 amps, Nanni part no 970307522. For checking and measuring this kind of power, a clamp multimeter is handy.

Nanni Diesel Exclusive UK & Eire Distributor - A R Peachment are dealers and helpful.

The base would be a Kubota tractor engine, so if hard to find some (not all) parts could be available from Kubota sources. Taking only 62 hp from a 2.8 litre engine indicates that if it receives a little TLC it'll serve you for many years to come. Designed to take some abuse.
