Hi all, I recently purchased a Colvic Northerner (1976) and all is going well. However I have this board secured to the aft of the vessel and don’t know it’s purpose. I don’t want to remove it to find out later down the line it did serve a purpose. I thought it might be some kind of transom for an outboard but would rather ask the experts. So what exactly is this?

Yep, I agree with OH. The U clamps may not be strong enough to prevent an outboard from rotating in lumpy seas, and ideally the board should be secured on two horizontals, not just one.

And it would be very much worth cleaning up those protruding bolt threads to prevent damage to human flesh or torn sails or clothing.
