I think the feminine in just used as a sop to our wives/partners to make them feel part of what we are doing. The ultimate guilt trip (or wise move) is to name it after them with the prefix "Lady".
By the way I know what I am talking about, I am the only man in the house and have wife and three daughters. My boat name? - "My Girls". That one gesture allows me to get away with anything regarding the boat.
My wife is into the boating as much as i am, she is not bothered about calling it ater a female, she's trying to come up with something Italian or Latin cause it sounds nice!!.......
'cave navis' sounds very nice and may well be very appropriate; 'cave uxor' is probably more approprite for general use but doesn't sound as nice and doesn't seem to aply in yor case either !
NOW NOW, theres no need for all that bickering,, it was just a simple question.
KevL it is a new boat , i don,t know what gave you the idea it was a used one.
The name "the bitch" has been suggested a few times by friends, but i don't like the idea of telling people that i'm taking "The Bitch" out at the weekend!!!!
They might get the wrong idea...
Had that last spring - renaming our Targa 33... nightmare! She was called Pendjari - which sounded like a rather unpleasant curry!
In the end, my wife, daughter and I holed up in a pub under the proviso that we couldn't leave until we had found a name. Everything we came up with at first was either poncey or flouncey - everything from "share options" to "Damned good life".
In the end we decided to think of a name that
a) meant absolutely nothing
b) could be understood easily over the radio by a French Marina operator
Our final choice? Cinnamon... if anything it means a sweet spice... but it at least it's spelt the same way in French!
