Looking at a very nice Najad 420, mid 1990's vintage. Looks very well cared for, would suit us if the numbers add up.

Najad has had a bit of a checkered history; wondered what people might know about the Najad boats from that era? I'd assume any build related issues were ironed out ages ago, any known problems with layup, osmosis, delamination, cored hulls...?

Input welcome, thanks.

I am not aware of any build issues in any of the Najad models. The mid 90's was a good period for Najad. There are different layouts available and some I prefer better than others.
There are some specific things to look for. One is the alloy windshield suffers from corrosion. Stainless steel was an option.
Most components are off the shelf, not custom, so easier to replace.
I have a Najad 390

Hi

Mine is a 99/ 00 vintage 490 , getting her up and ready for a RTW leaving next summer , bought her in June , sailed her to Ireland and back couldn't be happier with the boat , go for it you will not regret it , had Talulah moor up next to me in Brighton and he knows these boats like the back of his hand .... I would have no hesitation in contacting him if I needed help / info and yes his refirb is brilliant .... :)

We have had a few Najads of that era on yacht delivery, including a Trans Atlantic and a delivery back from Greece. No issues with them at all. They are fantastic yachts!

It's interesting that the smallish island of Orust developed as a centre of high quality boatbuilding. Today, it's Hallberg-Rassy, Malo and Najad primarily; in the past it was also Aphrodite. Boats from the 90s were well constructed and nicely finished, with lots of wood below. I had a 1991 Hallberg-Rassy 352 for over 20 years, and it was an excellent boat.
