Najad back in business.

Good news for the employees we hope.

However, I am very sceptical about this. Just because you manage to resurrect a company after writing off its debt does not mean you have saved the business.

The simple fact is the new boat orders had almost dried up. That's nothing to do with the debts of the previous owners. It's all about having a competitive range of new boats that people want to buy.

We can speculate all we like, but with all the Scandinavian boat builders really struggling at the moment, only time will tell if this resurrection is not temporary.
 
If mis-management means not controlling costs when the orders dry up, it still doesn't alter the fact that orders dried up. IMHO the newer Najads looked like high quality Bavajeneteaus, this may be why orders dried up. I wouldn't buy a ferrari that looked like a fiat from 50 paces.

Hopefully the new owners have deep pockets and can wait out this recession while designing gorgeous new Najads.

And hopefully the skilled craftsmen needed to build them will still be around when this happens - and haven't re-trained to become financial advisors or tele-sales executives.

Otherwise it is just a stay of execution....
 
We do not all have the same tastes, I thought the newer Najads were moving in the right direction with aft cockpits and a bit more emphasis on performance, there was no point in them competing directly with HR for the slow but solid as a tank market.
 
The world would be a poorer place without quality Swedish boats to consider.

Myself and a couple of others on here seem to prefer the UKbuilt alternative-quick(!) and solid as a tank. But no triple aft cabin options, alas for many.

I wish 'em well at Najad. It takes time to assemble all that talent in one place.

Wonder if the likes of Ben/Jen and Hanse bother to instigate in house apprenticeships in order to ensure quality craftsmen? Any one know please?

Which roughly translated means apprenticeships in purchasing, wood working and boat building. Offered to school leavers who are willing to study part time on the job (must be prepared to attend technical college in Lübeck).

Generally in Germany there are loads of industry backed training schemes, it's the norm and all my kids friends have got apprenticeships to train in all sorts of things from upholstery to piano making, a few even decided to go to university.

There are often more apprenticeships than applicants.

After 10 years here I now know why the Germans have a reputation for quality manufacturing ...
