After watching young Dylans blog on his trip up the Yorkshire coast albeit in a stick n rag job, I quite like the idea of making the trip in my old tub.
Has anybody done the trip from Naburn lock (river ouse) up the tidal section to Hull, Bridlington and beyond??

My boats marina'd in York marina and I'm getting a bit board of traversing the upper Ouse and dodging rowists plus I quite fancy a trip down the wild side of the tidal Ouse upto Hull and then on to Bridlington and finally to Scarborough.

Any advice is warmly welcomed...:encouragement:

If you haven't made a tidal journey you should do some research as getting it wrong on the Humber could be hazardous.
First you need to get the chart for the Ouse. http://www.kildalemarine.co.uk/showpartnumber.asp?CategoryID=31010&PartNumberID=317173
You will also need the chart for the upper Humber - which you will need to get , or at least update, as close as possible to your travel date since the channel can change . You can view the current Humber chart (and others) on the ABP website. Here is the February chart .... http://81.19.55.87/abppublisheddocuments/Upper Humber Bi-Monthly - February 2015.pdf
.

What sort of boat do you have ?

Thanks for the links.:encouragement:
I have a birchwood ts37 supersports. It needs a good run due to being holed up in Newark for six months and now sat in York marina for four months. She's dying to give her legs a good stretch:)

thanks guys, i actually live in scarborough but trying to get a berth there is like trying to get hold of the proverbial. I miss my fishing:nonchalance:

Hi Markspark,

I also have a TS37 Supersport, which normally lives at Naburn (away at the moment). I have done that trip many times. The boat is well capable you just need to plan carefully. Naburn lock keeper will help you with times to lock out onto the lower Ouse (as a rule of thumb about 3hrs after HW Hull). Best bet is to anchor at Trent falls then go down to Hull on the second tide. Choose your weather carefully for the trip from Hull to Scarborough. It can get lumpy! especially just outside Spurn point (Binks) and off Flamborough head. Both can be helped by going further out to sea. Plan to arrive at Scarborough close to high water as access is not "all tides" onto the visitor/leisure pontoons. (the chart and even Scarborough marina office (dependant on who you speak to) may suggest otherwise but believe me It's not)! Hope that helps but shout if you want more info'

John.

Thanks John thats a great help, what engines do you have in your ss and how do you find it on the open sea??

I have TAMD41a's (200HP). The boat is good out at sea, probably not the best but definitely not the worst! She can slam a little in bad conditions but if driven sensibly no problems. They are solidly built and (like most boats) can take a lot more than the crew can! Worst I've been in is a force 6. Concerning at first but when you get used to the motion you begin to appreciate the boats ability.

Which is your boat? Have you bought her recently? Which engines?

John.

my boats Northern wave, been in Naburn since early December since moving it up from Newark. Its got twin BMW's which have been well maintained by last owner who was a commercial skipper so had no problems with them as yet.
My last boat was a 27ft fairline up in Seaham and i liked going out to sea with my son to do some fishing but the long drive and tempremental sea gate got on my nerves hence coming down to York.
Wheres your boat now then??

On the Ancholme (off the Humber). I still have my mooring at Naburn (bankside, not in the marina).

The BMW's are 180 HP (I think)? I cruise easily at 16 to 18 knts. Can get mid 20's if I push it (I don't). Assume yours will be a tad slower but hopefully not much. I get about 1.3 MPG on the trip your planning, don't know what the BMW's will use.

We did the run up the East coast last summer in our Sealine S23 making it as far as Newcastle before heading back for home up the Trent and back to Lincoln. We had planned to go further and get to Eyemouth but the weather decided otherwise and we got stuck longer then expected in Whitby and then later in the holiday for three days at South Shields.

We made our first stop Grimsby as it is that bit closer to the coast and made the next hop to Whitby a bit shorter.

We really enjoyed the couple of days we spent in Scarborough on the way back down the coast. Its a lovely spot and the visitor moorings are really very quiet by night.

How do you cope with no phone reception?

It is the only place we have ever visited by boat where neither of us could get it. We had to walk to the top of the hill and climb the castle to get signal!

How long did it take you to go from Grimsby to Scarborough??

We missed out Scarborough on the way up and went straight to Whitby.

It took us three hours from mooring to mooring but we had flat calm seas the whole way and cruised at approaching 30 knots the whole way.

Bit stormy heading into Whitby but you can see how flat the water was! We didn't have so much as a ripple all the way. Shame the rest of the trip didn't bring with it seas like these. Our next leg, Whitby to Newcastle Marina was a fair bit more lumpy.

Scarborough to Hull on the way back was about three hours again cruising in the mid 20's.
